Physical Education / Sports Enrichment

FOUNDATION-FUNDED PROGRAM

Numerous nationwide and international studies are showing that students who are physically fit are not only healthier, but do better in school, have fewer disciplinary problems, and have a better attendance rate.

In addition to regular outdoor activity and physical education in our teachers' weekly plans, the Foundation also funds a dedicated and qualified coach through a school partnership with the Dan McKinney YMCA. Coach Sergio Cabrera, who has taught at TPES for over 30 years, provides physical fitness sports and games activities that are designed to help students meet the state standards for fitness and prepare students participating in the annual Kiwanis Junior Olympics. Coach Sergio teaches all students year round. Visit Coach Sergio's page here!

The Foundation also provides funding for specialized physical fitness opportunities at the Dan McKinney YMCA and at the TPES campus depending on grade-levels. These opportunities may include swimming, gymnastics, kickball, Frisbee golf, floor hockey, and more.

The schedule will be shared on the TPES calendar and through classroom teachers.

The Foundation also funds PE supplies to ensure they are good quality and supplement engaging PE enrichment.
