TORREY PINES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOUNDATION We are dedicated to building a fantastic school for our children! |
FOUNDATION-FUNDED PROGRAM
The Foundation supports the amazing TPES science program by funding additional science lab supplies for the district-supported Science teacher to implement in hand-on experiments throughout the year. Thanks to this additional funding, the engaging TPES interactive science program inspires students to think like scientists and engineers to solve real-world problems. This includes developing critical thinking, curiosity and hypothesis testing skills.
Also, Foundation volunteers organize Science Discovery Day where all students are exposed to an interactive day of exploring science, technology, engineering, and math led by experts based in the community from top academic, health, and science institutions. If you are interested in getting involved in Science Discovery Day, please email sdd@tpesfoundation.org.
Enrichment Teacher Feature:
Meet Mr. Haselton, our TPES Science Teacher!
We are thrilled to introduce Mr. Haselton our science teacher at Torrey Pines Elembenary! Mr. Haselton delivers consistent science curriculum and instruction every week to all students UTK through 5th grade. Check out his note to families below.
Hello, My name is Grant Haselton, the science teacher at Torrey Pines Elementary. I am so happy to be working with all the amazing students in this community again! I have been a teacher at TPES for 4 school years. This year I will continue seeing all students once a week for science enrichment. My science program is based on California State Standards, however the goal of our time together is to inspire students to be curious about the world around them. In addition to practicing the standards, we often explore local phenomena, science news and other science topics that peak student interest. During our class students often engage in hands-on activities, projects, and labs.
I grew up in San Diego, and I attended SDSU for my bachelor degree and then obtained my science teaching credential and masters degree from National University. Outside of the science classroom, I have a wife and two young daughters both under 3 years old. We are often exploring the outdoors around San Diego. It has been great to get to know the amazing community that supports all the students at TPES and I'm looking forward to an amazing year!
