Here at TPES we are very excited when parents or community members want to volunteer and help out in our schools and classrooms.  We think student safety is very important and have procedures in place to provide a safe learning environment for all staff and students.

If you would like to become a volunteer at our school please review the Volunteer Code of Conduct and fill out the Volunteer Application Form and return it to the  school office. 

Also, provide results of Tuberculosis (TB) skin test. TB tests are valid for 4 years from test date. If you have any further questions please contact our secretary, Kimberly Eurich at keurich@sandi.net.

Room parents provide an invaluable service to our school. They are the main source of communication between the TPES Foundation, the classroom teacher, and the parents within each classroom. 

Being a room parent is a great way to get to know your child's teacher and the other parents in your child's classroom.

Volunteers are needed to work with a grade-level parent team to assist Ms. Syeda in the art room. No artistic talent necessary! Your help is much appreciated as this weekly commitment is essential for the class flow.

Parents help by setting up and cleaning up, passing out the art supplies, encouraging the

students, mounting the art, and taking photos for the online art gallery. Also, feel free to jump in and assist the students with their art!

Rotations start on 9/10. They are held every Tuesday (TK/K/3rd), Thursday (1st & 2nd) & Friday (4th & 5th). For many of the classes, a group will rotate from Art directly to Music. Therefore, if you would like to volunteer for both Art and Music, please sign-up for both.

Signing up for both is a 1h10 weekly commitment for TK/K, 1h30 for 1st and 2nd grade, and 1h40 for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. If you're not able to volunteer weekly but would like to help fill in whenever necessary, please sign-up in your child's class "fill in" box.

Help Ms. Slavik in her classroom for the 11 week music rotation and subsequently to help with the theater and dance rotations in the winter and spring rotation sessions.

On October 6th and 7th, La Jolla Art and Wine Festival returns for its 10th season. Last year this event raised $32,000 for each of the La Jolla Cluster schools including TPES. One of the largest fundraisers of the year, this is always a fun way to support the school! This is a fun evening with a silent and live auction, great food and drinks, and dancing with friends.

Mark your calendar for March 16, 2019 and be ready to have fun and be ready to bid at the auction. We need parents to buy tickets, come and have fun, and bid for terrific auction items ... all in the spirit of supporting our school programs.

We want our kids to be safe at drop-off and pick-up! The student safety patrol helps with crosswalk duties, but we need parent Safety Ambassadors as well.

Help is needed daily 8:05-8:35am and 2:50-3:10pm (12:25-12:40 on Wednesdays) on the sidewalk in front of the school, to help kids out of cars and keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Pizza Wednesday will begin on August 30th with pizza and salads for sale after the early 12:30 pm Wednesday dismissal. Look for the tables across the street from the office.

TPES Paint-A-Tile

These tiles are painted by parents and students and are used to decorate the outside of our library. The funds raised through this program go towards Foundation-Supported programs. 

Parent volunteers are needed throughout the year to help with promotion, ceramic-tile parties, and coordinating the firing and installation of completed tiles. We need you!

Wear-It-Wednesday will be held every week this year. Parents, Students, and Teachers are going to need their TPES Apparel. We need an “Apparel Crew!”

Volunteers are needed to help with sales at the events and to help distribute and organize the t-shirt orders.

The VP’s of Academic Affairs, head the sub-committees that oversee the VAPA, Art, Spanish, and Technology Programs.

The Garden Committee, is responsible for all aspects of the Garden Program including Garden Club, Youth Farmer’s Market, garden maintenance, composting and collaboration with teachers on garden curriculum.

The Yearbook is a year-long project. Help lead the student yearbook committee in the spring.

Duties include taking and collecting photos, photo editing, choosing and verifying art and content, supervising the Yearbook Club students and more. Additionally, one parent per room is needed to take pictures. Volunteers help lead the student yearbook committee in the spring, photographing important and everyday campus events, developing the yearbook layout, and marketing to the school.

The Foundation and parent volunteers organize an afternoon of fun track & field games for all TPES students. Games include hula hooping, baton races, water balloon relays and other fun competitions. All students receive ribbons and a snack after participating.

Annual Torrey Trot Fun Run & 5K

This is a fun family event that also helps raise funds for TPES Foundation programs. Looking for lots of volunteers to prepare and for the day of the run.

As we approach the holiday season, let's come together and support families in need that live in our San Diego community. Your child will receive a grocery bag with a list of most-needed food items. Please fill your bag over the Thanksgiving break and bring it to school Dec 4-Dec 8. Large red bins will be found across our campus. Donations will go to the San Diego Food Bank. Participate in this season of giving!

The San Diego Food Bank will pick up the donated food but we need help with distribution of the grocery bags and other details of the event. Volunteer and be a part of this wonderful event!

This will be one of our largest fundraisers! This event is so special because the children take the lead. They are the driving force behind this event and they have a ton of fun along the way. They collect pledges and donations from family, friends, and neighbors for weeks. They take to the field and complete thousands of laps as a school. They have a blast. 

Last year we raised over $30,000 for TPES! In previous years we have reached over $60,000.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to TPES the week of March 20th-22nd! Your student will have an opportunity to preview the selection of books available for purchase on either Monday or Tuesday with their classroom teacher. The Book Fair will be open for shopping Wednesday through Friday.

Contact the chair, Tracey Balsdon (tvbalsdon@sbcglobal.net) if you would like to help. We need parent volunteers on Monday and Tuesday to assist classes in previewing the book selections. We also need help Wednesday - Friday before and after school with sales.


TPES Variety Show focus on demonstrating the range of talent in our student population. It has been a yearly success because of the student talent but also because of the parent volunteers who helped put it on. 

We will be looking for volunteers to help with student practices, set design, flyers, props, ticket sales, backstage hands, etc. Join the team for this fun event and help create the magic.

25+ years ago, TPES teacher Jana Keating initiated Science Discovery Day at our school. Since then, SDD has been a showcase for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) at Torrey Pines Elementary. Each year, we have awe-inspiring parent presenters demonstrating the principles of health science, physics, chemistry, statistics, technology, and more. Each student joins a group of 8-12 classmates and participates in three 30-minute presentations tailored for their age group.

Are you passionate about science and technology? We are too! Are you a professional in a science or technology related field? Do you know a fun, unique, or gross science activity or experiment? Great! Science Discovery Day wants you! Please volunteer to be a presenter or just help out at the 23rd Annual TPES Science Discovery Day. If you have friends or neighbors in the sciences please encourage them to participate in the fun too. It is the presenters that make this day such a joy for the students every year.

TPES Families love their teachers! Before school on Tuesday, May 8th we invite you and your children to place flowers, cards or other small gifts into the buckets and baskets that will be on display in the lunch arbor. In addition to your child’s teacher, we will have vases and baskets for all our amazing resource and specialty teachers too! We hope you will join us in letting our teachers know how important they are to us and how much we appreciate their hard work!

Throughout the year there are about 4 Restaurant Nights/Weeks when a local restaurant hosts a fundraiser for the school. This is a fun time to meet up with other families for dinner out!
