By now, many of you may have heard about the $124 million SDUSD budget deficit. We know that the budget cuts will affect TPES in direct ways including reductions in librarian and health tech hours to possible elimination of our enrichment science class. Further, the school district has estimated TPES’ student enrollment to be lower in the fall; thus, they have assigned us one fewer teacher beginning in the fall 2017. This could mean larger class sizes and more strain on our teachers. These challenges also come at a time of increased pressures on the Foundation with many Foundation-funded positions costing 25% more than in previous years due to district mandated hiring practices.

The TPES Foundation was created to fill in the gaps left by low school funding. The incredible TPES community, via the Foundation, has made it possible for our students to attend an award-winning school and continue having additional classroom and part-time teachers, literacy and math professional development, art, music, theater, PE, Spanish language instruction, technology, garden, and more. 

Many parents have donated generously (THANK YOU!), but we are short of our original fundraising goal of $325,000. This goal increases to $400,000 if we want to provide all the programs we funded this year.

Can your family afford $100/month to support your child’s education? With local private schools costing over $25,000/year, consider all the enrichment opportunities your child receives for less than 5% of that cost! Or please consider any amount that is comfortable for your family.
