Technology Program

Ms. Lin, Techology Teacher with TPES student

The Technology Program at Torrey Pines is a Foundation-Funded progam that provides our students and staff with a fully qualified and dedicated Technology Teacher as well as funding for technology improvements. So far, the Foundation has fully funded 2 laptop carts with 44 laptops, purchased teacher printers and projectors as well as other equipment to create a technology rich environment for our students.

The Student Experience: Technology is revolutionizing the learning process for students at Torrey Pines. Every third grade classroom on our campus has a dedicated netbook cart equipped with 25 netbooks as well as an interactive Smartboard and 21st century classroom improvements. The remainder of the classrooms on campus are equipped with a minimum of 5 thin client computers as well as access to two laptop carts equipped with 22 laptops per cart. Technology is being integrated into the learning experiences of students at every grade level, across all curricular areas. Grades K-1 are using technology to improve their reading and skills. While students in Grade 2-3 are using technology to learn research and writing skills. Grade 4-5 students are using technology to enhance lessons in social studies and math. For more information about how technology is being utilized at Torrey Pines, please visit the Monthly Technology Update blog.

Benefits for our Students: Studies have shown that students who use technology in the classroom benefit by being more engaged and motivated to learn. Technology provides opportunities for students to have individualized learning experiences. A technology rich learning environment also facilitates project-based learning. Through project-based learning, students acquire skills in critical thinking, visualizing, decision making, creativity, cross-cultural understanding, planning as well as skills in communicating both personally and digitally.

Technology Instruction Goal: My name is Julie Lin, and I am the Technology Teacher at Torrey Pines Elementary. My goal as Technology Teacher is to facilitate the integration of technology across our campus. Whether I am co-teaching a lesson, trouble-shooting technical problems, providing training to teachers or attending Technology Cluster meetings, my goal is to enhance the learning experience for your children though the use of technology.

A Little About Julie Lin: I have loved technology for as long as I can remember. After graduating from college, I worked as a programmer, writing financial software for a large company in Silicon Valley, where I grew up. After moving to San Diego and having children, I became interested in how technology can be used to enhance the educational experience. I earned my Multiple Subjects Credential and have been fortunate to do what I love in my job everyday. I have 2 daughters who are graduates of Torrey Pines Elementary. One is currently freshman at UC Berkeley and the other is a junior at La Jolla High. In my spare time, I like to take trips with my family and spend time in the great outdoors.
